Critical Factor: Security

In many cases process, not technology, is the only way to implement security in threat exposed environments.

In 1962, casinos in the United States were taken by surprise by the mathematician Edward Thorp, who wrote the book "Beat the Dealer" in which he taught card counting, a mathematical method, to increase the chances of winning at Black Jack.

To this day, the only way casinos can cope with this situation is through strict processes since neither the staff nor the technology are sufficient to protect them from players using this technique.

Security technology alone is an inadequate measure for computing environments today. An proper implementation of security across the organization requires defined and repeatable processes that provide the necessary infrastructure upon which a security management platform can be established.

Processes are essential to ensure the security of a system because they establish a well defined methodology designed to meet the security needs of the organization in a wide variety of situations.
